The unveiling of ‘GOOD IN ME’ arrives alongside news that Isabelle’s new EP ‘CMD' will hit streaming services and digital retailers on September 17th. ‘CMD' takes its title from the computer keyboard abbreviation for "Command”. A nod to being in control with tracks that explore self-love, sexuality, healing, attachment, vulnerability and resistance within the industry. Comprising 5-tracks, the EP epitomizes why Mettle defines herself as a “producer who happens to sing”. Fluidly running the gamut between digitised pop music, neo-soul, funk, jazz and gospel, the EP moves in the manner of a mixtape.
Speaking on the EP’s origin story, Isabelle said: it's a collection of songs that capture my sound as a producer-artist. As it is fully self-produced, ‘CMD’ is also an important statement of authorship for me, particularly within the male-dominated space of music production!”
The first taste of the upcoming project arrived in May with its lead single ‘HEAD IN THE CLOUDS’. A gritty yet sassy contemporary R&B track belied with a subtle sensuality. The track is an ode to body confidence and self-image, driven by synth bass, syncopated choppy rhythms and sleek digital textures. Its release coincided with Isabelle’s rousing showcase at the recent edition of The Great Escape Festival.
‘CMD’ arrives a year on from Mettle’s dual debut EPs ‘Equinox’ and ‘Changes’ which featured standout tracks ‘Got A Lil Luv’, ‘Loose Change’, ‘Clothes Off The Rack’and ‘Sit By Me’ and scored support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds UK & IE’ platform and Amazon Music’s +44.
At a mere 23 years old and already amassing high-profile fans in Erykah Badu and Snarky Puppy, Isabelle Mettle already has the makings of a self-contained and forward-thinking musician. Heavily influenced by experimental and disruptive ideas that push the boundaries of music composition. Developing her skills over years working back of house, Isabelle has performed backing vocals for RAYE at the Royal Albert Hall, BRIT Awards, Reading & Leeds Festival, Wembley Summertime Ball, MTV EMAs and All Points East, while also featuring on RAYE’s ‘Genesis’ and ‘My 21st Century Symphony’. Most recently, she contributed backing vocals to Ed Sheeran’s single ‘Camera’ and appeared alongside him on The Graham Norton Show.
