Southampton-born, London-based singer-rapper Reuben Aziz kicks off the year with his new single “Shotgun”. Continuing a recurring theme in his music, Reuben channels love and connection on “Shotgun”, reminding listeners of the importance of nurturing meaningful relationships as he steps into 2026. Built around a majestic, anthemic-production, the track places Reuben’s signature pitched-up vocals front and centre, a sound that has earned him a reputation as one of the most exciting next-generation voices in UK R&B. For a sonic that is heavily inspired by Kanye West’s "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” Reuben utilises lyrics “Everything is old but you’re new to me baby, we can touch the sky, there’s no roof to me baby” to bring listeners directly into his musical world.
“I’m trying to carve a lane of R&B which pays homage to Hip-Hop through sounds that emulate mosh-pit energy as much as something beautiful and melodic. I’ve put a lot more focus on the visual elements on this one too, as I'm aware of the visual world I'm trying to build in 2026.
Reuben Aziz is an artist balancing Rap and R&B in equal measure, sitting stylistically between Ed Sheeran and Skepta. Known for pairing melodic songwriting with R&B-meets-Rap-led production, he’s equally comfortable crafting guitar-led ballads or R&B-driven tracks over his own instrumentals. Whether recording alone in his DIY bedroom setup or alongside the likes of Kairo Keyz, Backroad Gee, and Proph, Reuben approaches his craft with intent and curiosity beyond his 22 years. Raised in Southampton, he shifted from a near-career in basketball to music during his teens, a move that sparked multiple viral moments and led to co-signs. To capitalise on a successful year, last month Reuben partnered with Salomon for an in-store performance and giveaway, making waves across culture and social, earning co-signs from HYPEBEAST UK, Clash, and more, marking a standout activation among his peers.
“Shotgun” arrives at the top of a new year and serves as the first taste of a forthcoming project due this summer.
