The Godfather of Trapwave M Huncho returns with his new album,The Wizard, released via 10K Projects. Spanning 15 tracks, the project sees M Huncho further expand the universe he’s spent years crafting, joined by standout features from Nafe Smallz, Headie One, and sosocamo. Rooted in self-reflection and identity, The Wizardblends melodic rap, sharp lyricism, and immersive production, hallmarks of Huncho’s sound, brought to life alongside longtime collaborator Quincy Tell Em. The result is a cohesive body of work that deepens his artistic vision while pushing Trapwave into new territory.

Opening track "A.L.O.T" immediately establishes the album's central themes, beginning with a scene inspired by The Wizard of Oz. Huncho sounds reflective and measured, easing listeners into the record before he and Quincy settle into what they do best: fluid flows over head-nodding production. It's a fitting introduction to an album preoccupied with the idea of the man behind the mask. Lead single "Wild N Free" pairs Huncho with North Carolina rapper sosocamo. Together, they reflect on their relationship with success, money, and the pressures that accompany both. Moments of introspection sit alongside references to retail therapy and luxury, creating a balance between indulgence and self-awareness. On "10 On The Go", Huncho confronts the consequences that come with his faith and the judgment he's faced throughout his career. Rather than offering explanations, he doubles down on authenticity, presenting himself as he is rather than who others might want him to be.

The album's strongest conceptual thread comes through its use ofThe Wizard of Ozcharacters. Huncho has long positioned himself as an enigmatic figure, making the parallels feel natural rather than forced. "Tin Man" explores emotional detachment, isolation, and the urge to retreat from the outside world, touching on changing numbers, avoiding people, and embracing a colder side of himself. Following that, "Cowardly Lion" shifts into more emotive territory. The track wrestles with perceptions of strength and weakness while reaffirming his outspoken support for Palestine and Sudan. Backed by some of the album's most affecting production, it stands among the record's most powerful moments.

Elsewhere, Huncho continues his long-running affection for football references. "Push The Button" includes a nod to Myles Lewis-Skelly, while "Julio" draws inspiration from Julio Jones. These references feel less like throwaway bars and more like extensions of the sporting imagery that has consistently appeared throughout his catalogue.

Melody remains at the heart of the project. "Outside" carries the breezy feel of a summer anthem in waiting, while closing track "Long Sleeve Henry" signs off with one of Huncho's most energetic performances, ending the album on a fiery note.

The pre-release singles "Wizard of Oz", "Championship", and "We Up" offered a glimpse into the album's direction, but they only scratched the surface. Much like MF DOOM and Madlib, the relationship between Huncho and Quincy Tell Em remains fundamental to the project's success. Their chemistry is the album's backbone; each seems to sharpen the other's strengths. Together, they continue to create music that feels greater than the sum of its parts.

The Wizard doesn't reinvent the M Huncho formula, but it refines it. By weaving introspective songwriting through a loose Wizard of Oz-inspired framework, Huncho delivers one of his most cohesive projects to date, proving that even after years behind the mask, he still has new corners of himself left to reveal.
