Today 8th April, Irish alternative Rapper KhakiKid returns with his new track ‘Rude’, a collaborative release featuring fellow Irish artist Kojaque and guest vocals from Kean Kavanagh. The track is taken from KhakiKid’s forthcoming five-track EP ‘Girl Bites Dog’, set for release on 17 April. Produced by Brién and Kean Kavanagh, ‘Rude’ brings together some of Ireland’s most exciting talents. The result is a vibrant, feel-good record driven by playful lyricism and an infectious creative energy that highlights the chemistry between all three artists. The single arrives alongside a cinematic music video directed by award-winning filmmaker Robert Bass. The visual captures the natural camaraderie between KhakiKid, Kojaque and Kean Kavanagh, placing them in a series of dynamic and often humorous scenarios, from performing on stage and riding in a car, to an offbeat boxing ring sequence where Kojaque playfully puts KhakiKid in a chokehold. In true KhakiKid fashion, the video leans into his signature blend of humour and chaos. One standout moment sees him caught off guard in a compromising situation, leaping out of a window and fleeing the scene with his trousers around his ankles. KhakiKid’s irreverent approach to storytelling, paired with a fearless commitment to the absurd, has become a defining hallmark of his visual output, often brought to life alongside close collaborators and friends. At its core, his work delves into life’s moments and relationships through an unfiltered, comedic lens, transforming personal experiences into sharp, culturally resonant observations that connect with audiences. ‘Rude’ follows recent singles ‘Favela’ and ‘Soul’, both of which garnered strong support from BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists programme, including airplay from Sian Eleri, alongside coverage from leading publications such as Dazed, The Times and NME. With momentum building ahead of ‘Girl Bites Dog’, ‘Rude’ further cements KhakiKid as one of Ireland’s most compelling and unpredictable voices.
Born and raised in Dublin, KhakiKid — real name Abdu — began writing raps at the age of 12, inspired by the raw storytelling of Eminem and 50 Cent, and the groundbreaking grime and rap music videos of Channel U. Over the years, he has crafted a sound entirely his own, offbeat, emotionally resonant, and infused with influences from Tyler, The Creator, Mac Miller, and Irish peers such as Bricknasty and Kojaque. Known for his inventive wordplay, and hands-on creative approach, KhakiKid not only writes and records his own material but also directs and edits his music videos. Themes of identity, belonging, and heritage play a central role in his work. Having grown up on a council estate in Dublin and spoken openly about living with ADHD and reconnecting with his Arab-Irish roots, KhakiKid brings a refreshing authenticity and emotional depth to his music. His live performances have become a hallmark of his artistry, energetic, heartfelt, and magnetic. Recent highlights include a sold-out headline show at Dublin’s iconic 3Olympia Theatre, performance on the Electric Arena Stage at Electric Picnic (12,000 capacity) and appearances at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, sharing the bill with Maverick Sabre, Aby Coulibaly, and Rejjie Snow amongst others. KhakiKid’s rise has been meteoric: he’s a Spotify RADAR: First Listen artist, he's amassed over 25 million streams, gained 100,000 new online followers in months, and received high-profile co-signs from Lola Young and Anderson Paak. Media acclaim has followed, with features in Wonderland, MTVUK, Clash Magazine, NME (100 Essential Artists) and Dazed, who hailed him as One to Watch for 2025. He has also been nominated in 2 of 5 categories at this year’s RTE Choice Music Prize, Breakthrough Artist and Song of the year for ‘Date Nite’ which he also performed on the Late Late Show.
‘Rude’ is the fourth single from KhakiKid’s forthcoming project, continuing the momentum built by recent releases 'Moved On', 'Favela’ and ‘Soul’, the Dublin artist has been steadily gaining traction ahead of his upcoming EP, ‘Girl Bites Dog’. A promotional video for ‘Soul’ recently went viral across social media, amassing over 9 million views and further showcasing KhakiKid’s creativity and growing cultural impact. Rapidly establishing himself across both Ireland and the UK, KhakiKid recently performed in London at the Guinness Storehouse’s St. Patrick’s Day event alongside F3miii and Saint DeMarcus. Known for his high-energy live performances, he continues to captivate audiences so keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities to hear tracks from ‘Girl Bites Dog’ performed live.
