Today (6th August), South London singer-songwriter JGrrey announces her long-awaited debut album, “you, me and jen”, alongside the release of new single 'bedbug' featuring Brooklyn rapper Erick the Architect. Produced by Maths Time Joy, the track's shadowy trip-hop production unlocks a more playful, self-assured side of her artistry, embracing swagger with a knowing sense of humour. While its razor-sharp lyricism revels in confidence and larger-than-life energy, the track remains grounded in self-awareness, balancing bravado with humility. Rather than shrinking herself to fit the expectations of others, JGrrey embraces every facet of her personality, recognising that true confidence comes from owning your complexity without allowing it to become ego. Long admired for weaving together genres including Neo-Soul, Jazz, Alternative Hip-Hop and R&B, JGrrey channels those influences into one of her most dynamic performances to date. Effortlessly moving between melodic passages, spoken word and tightly delivered bars, 'bedbug' highlights the breadth of her artistry while reaffirming the hip-hop sensibilities that have always underpinned her sound. Serving as another window into “you, me and jen”, 'bedbug' embodies the album's central philosophy: that growth comes from embracing contradiction and existing comfortably within life's many shades of grey. "I find in music I'm or in my day-to-day life I'm always trying to humble myself, check myself and not get too boastful. When I heard the beat for this it just made me want to chat shit. “You're not fly your bed bug so good night”, like all of that humble shit that I've been preaching… it’s now more like fuck that I'm the shit, you ain't shit, you never gonna be shit"
JGrrey first emerged in the late 2010s with a run of intimate live sessions and quietly magnetic releases that blurred the lines between Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop and Electronic music. Drawing from a life shaped by movement across London, having spent time in foster care before later being adopted, her music has always felt deeply personal, balancing diaristic songwriting with a restless, genre-fluid approach. Influenced from an early age by her DJ father, JGrrey’s work explores themes of identity, love, mental health and self-discovery with a rare sense of openness. Since her breakout COLORS performance of “Don’t Fade”, she has steadily established herself as one of the UK’s most distinctive alternative voices. Her 2019 debut EP ‘Grreydaze’, featuring standouts such as “Pretty Insane” and “Gods House”, introduced the understated songwriting and emotional clarity that would become defining features of her sound. In 2023, she expanded that vision on her debut mixtape ‘If Not Now?’, a project featuring collaborations with Kojey Radical and Zombie Juice that explored identity, intimacy and self-expression through a broader sonic palette. Tracks such as “theirs13” served as an ode to queerness and self-expression, reflecting JGrrey’s commitment to openness and authenticity while further strengthening her connection with the queer community. The project went on to surpass 60 million streams and earned an AIM Award nomination, cementing her reputation as one of the UK’s most distinctive alternative soul voices.

Beyond her solo catalogue, JGrrey has collaborated with Finn Askew, Conducta, Manga Saint Hilare and Baxter Dury, while her work has also been sampled by hip-hop luminary Madlib. She has toured alongside Billie Eilish and delivered standout performances at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, Cross The Tracks, Brick Lane Jazz Festival and We Out Here, cementing her reputation as one of the UK's most compelling live voices. Last month, JGrrey returned with 'pedigrree', an introspective offering that found the South London artist at her most vulnerable. It followed 'take my hand', a collaboration with Bel Cobain that reconnected with the neo-soul influences at the core of her sound while signalling the start of a bold new era. Now, JGrrey shifts gears with 'bedbug' featuring Erick the Architect. Confident, playful and rooted firmly in hip-hop, the track highlights another side of her ever-expanding artistry, underlining her versatility while building anticipation for her long-awaited debut album.
