Hackney-born singer Mychelle releases her new single Sunday Afternoon via FAMM (home to Jorja Smith and Maverick Sabre). The track explores the complexities of opening yourself up to love when vulnerability can feel more frightening than comforting. Through honest, relatable storytelling, Mychelle captures the tension between craving meaningful connection and fearing the heartbreak that can follow past disappointments. Reflecting on near-misses, failed relationships, and emotional situations that were never destined to become something real, she questions whether the risks of love are worth taking. At its heart, “Sunday Afternoon” is a song about self-awareness and growth, acknowledging the desire for companionship, intimacy, and the comfort of shared everyday moments, while accepting that readiness for a relationship cannot be rushed. The accompanying video mirrors the song's warmth and sincerity, celebrating the beauty of simply spending time together. With no frills or grand gestures, it finds meaning in quiet moments, capturing the intimacy and ease of genuine connection.
Born and raised in Stoke Newington, just a stone’s throw from Clissold Park, Mychelle grew up in a home filled with music. The middle of three sisters, all drawn to singing and performing, she first picked up a guitar at age 10, only to set it aside until 17, when she rediscovered it and began to take songwriting seriously. Encouraged by mentors at school and university, she found an early kindred spirit in a close friend with whom she formed her first girl group. Determined to pursue music but naturally shy, Mychelle faced an obstacle that could have easily held her back. Instead, she chose the boldest route possible: busking. For more than four years, her raw, soulful performances became a fixture on London’s streets, turning the city itself into her stage and training ground. It was during one of those performances at London Bridge that fate intervened, her voice catching the attention of FAMM, the label that would go on to sign her. Busking didn’t just refine Mychelle’s artistry; it became her rehearsal space, her proving ground, and the experience that helped her shed her fears. As she steps into this new chapter of her career, she remains deeply connected to everything that fuels her, whether on the football field, basketball court, running track, or most importantly, the stage. A fierce competitor in both music and life, Mychelle continues to push her boundaries with the same determination that first sparked her journey.
Mychelle’s rise has earned support from The Metro, DIY, Evening Standard, Dork, and Clash, alongside airplay from DJ Target, Adele Roberts, and Jamz Supernova. With a growing catalogue of releases, Mychelle continues to carve out a distinctive space in the UK music landscape. Her debut album Good Day (2025) came after a string of standout EPs including Closure (2021), Someone Who Knows (2022), It’s Not You, It’s Me (2023), and the stripped-back Me & Gaz (2024). Following the release of Good Day, Mychelle sold out her London headline show at The Jazz Cafe before joining Jorja Smith on tour. She has performed at major festivals including Across The Tracks, Montreux Jazz Festival (CH), Boardmasters, Deer Shed, and Into the Great Wide Open (NL), as well as appearing at George Ezra and Friends and supporting Michael Kiwanuka on tour. No stranger to collaborations, she has also worked with brands such as Stone Island, Nike, Palace, and Pro:Direct. Her music has firmly entered the million-streams club: “Sweet Nothings” from her debut has surpassed 1 million plays, while “Life Isn’t” has accumulated over 2.5 million. Her collaboration with ENNY on “Forbidden Fruit” remains a fan favourite, now approaching 2.6 million streams and highlighting the emotional depth and honesty that define her songwriting.

Vulnerability doesn’t come easily to me
I cant lie I'm scared
All my friends keep telling me
I really need to put myself out there
Ooo, But is it all worth it
I’ve seen how it gets
When you’re so invested but it’s all a mess
You think you’re in love
Sometimes I think I'm ready
To dance with someone on Sunday Afternoon
Sometimes I think i’m ready to tell someone how my day went so they can tell me how their day went too
Thought I found the one a couple of times
But they were all a fail
Or they’re way too close I don’t wanna lose them
We can’t cross that line at all
I find myself in predicaments where I know that I wont fall cos we’re not even aligned
They’re just a placeholder until
Until it’s all worth it
I’ve seen how it gets
When you’re so invested but it’s all a mess
You think you’re in love
Sometimes I think I'm ready
To dance with someone on Sunday Afternoon
Sometimes I think i’m ready to tell someone how my day went so they can tell me how their day went too
Right now I don’t think I'm ready
To dance with someone on Sunday Afternoon
Right now I know i’m not ready to tell someone how my day went so they can tell me how their day went too
