Hackney-born singer-songwriter Mychelle returns with video for her new single “Personal Attack”
Mychelle - Personal Attack
Today – 25th March - Hackney-born singer-songwriter Mychelle returns with her new single “Personal Attack,” produced by SirBastien and released via FAMM (home to Jorja Smith and Maverick Sabre). Written during a trip to Paris,“Personal Attack” explores the emotional toll of giving everything in a relationship, only to feel picked apart and never quite enough. Blending neo-soul and folk-tinged indie pop, the song is carried by an intimate arrangement and Mychelle’s warm vocal. It reflects on how criticism can slowly erode confidence and blur cherished memories, leaving someone questioning their worth. With a dreamy, guitar-led sound and a melancholic chorus, Mychelle captures the ache of feeling like you never quite meet someone’s expectations, while still knowing your own value. “Personal Attack” blends vulnerability with quiet strength, showcasing Mychelle’s signature soulful songwriting.
Born and raised in Stoke Newington, just a stone’s throw from Clissold Park, Mychelle grew up in a home filled with music. The middle of three sisters, all drawn to singing and performing, she first picked up a guitar at age 10, only to set it aside until age 17, when she rediscovered it and began taking songwriting seriously. Encouraged by mentors at school and university, she found an early kindred spirit in a close friend with whom she formed her first girl group. Determined to pursue music but naturally shy, Mychelle faced an obstacle that could have easily held her back. Instead, she chose the boldest route possible: busking. For more than four years, her raw, soulful performances became a fixture on London’s streets, turning the city itself into her stage and training ground. It was during one of those performances at London Bridge that fate intervened, her voice catching the attention of FAMM, the label that would go on to sign her. Busking didn’t just refine Mychelle’s artistry; it became her rehearsal space, her proving ground, and the experience that helped her shed her fears. As she steps into this new chapter of her career, she remains deeply connected to everything that fuels her, whether on the football field, basketball court, running track, or most importantly, the stage. A fierce competitor in both music and life, Mychelle continues to push her boundaries with the same determination that first sparked her journey.
Mychelle’s rise has earned support from The Metro, DIY, Evening Standard, Dork, and Clash, alongside airplay from DJ Target, Adele Roberts, and Jamz Supernova. With a growing catalogue of releases, Mychelle continues to carve out a distinctive space in the UK music landscape. Her debut album Good Day (2025) came after a string of standout EPs including Closure (2021), Someone Who Knows (2022), It’s Not You, It’s Me (2023), and the stripped-back Me & Gaz (2024). Following the release of Good Day, Mychellesold out her London headline show at The Lexington before joining Jorja Smith on tour. She has performed at major festivals including Across The Tracks, Montreux Jazz Festival (CH), Boardmasters, Deer Shed, and Into the Great Wide Open (NL), as well as appearing at George Ezra and Friends and supporting Michael Kiwanuka on tour. No stranger to collaborations, she has also worked with brands such as Stone Island, Nike, Palace, and Pro:Direct. Her music has firmly entered the million-streams club: “Sweet Nothings” from her debut has surpassed 1 million plays, while “Life Isn’t” has accumulated over 2.5 million. Her collaboration with ENNY on “Forbidden Fruit” remains a fan favourite, now approaching 2.6 million streams and highlighting the emotional depth and honesty that define her songwriting.
